Westwood Hills Field Trip

The class got to learn about how maple syrup is produced.  When we arrived at the nature center we first got to explore samples of native animals of Minnesota.  After hearing a story about the process of collecting maple sap, the children got to watch a short puppet show that helped explain the whole process.  During our nature hike each student got to help drill a hole in a maple tree to hammer in the spile and observe the sap collection bucket get hung. The trip ended with a tasty treat of pure maple syrup and a pancake!
