Lockdown Drill

This morning we had our first lockdown drill.  As we discussed at Back-To-School Night this is required by Minnesota State law.  Teachers are typically not told in advance when a drill will occur.

Our class did a great job going to our spot in the room and waiting patiently for the drill to end. Many families are justifiably concerned about what four and five year olds are told about the reasons behind such a drill.  We do not tell the preschoolers a lot of details behind lockdown drills.  The children in our room have simply been told, "Sometimes Mrs. Bailey and Mr. Kim need to know where all the students are at one time. To help them know we are safe we do lockdown drills."  This makes sense to them and does not provide any frightening information.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
