Journal Entries

Yesterday the class worked on updating their journals.

Each student selected a memory from the field trip or information they have learned about pumpkins to write about.  The amount of thoughtful details that the children put into the pictures was impressive.

They paid close attention to color, scale, and background.  They were also very careful in their writing. Some of the children wrote with squiggly lines, some used letters they have seen, others recorded the initial letter sounds of each word in their sentence, and a few heard the middle and ending sounds of some words.

We will continue to use the journals throughout the year to record memories and important events.  Journals are a nice way for us to see how each child is beginning to understand the writing process and how words are made.
